Suite Spot

Designed to encourage harmonious living, Suite Spot is an app that allows suitemates to communicate about tasks for them home including cleaning, grocery, and scheduling needs as well as suitemate statuses.

Prototyped in Figma, Implemented in Code

Problem

Many college students find that their suite situation begins to unravel within the first week of the semester.

Trash quickly accumulates, the floors are overdue for sweeping, toilet paper mysteriously disappears, and the fridge sits nearly empty. One roommate’s boyfriend shows up—again—without any heads-up, while tensions rise as someone tries to sleep or study over the sound of another blasting music.

Research & Design Process

  • Conducted contextual inquires & affinity diagrammed to understand nuances of design problem & develop a clear design solution

  • Storyboarded to demonstrate design solutions

  • Prototyped low-fidelity mockups in Balsamiq

  • Smoke-and-mirrors prototyped to work with time-incurred implementation constraints early on in the process

  • Prototyped fidelity 1:1 wireframes in Figma

  • Implemented code in HTML, CSS, JS & Jquery

  • Ran app using React & Flask

Solution

Suite Spot was created to eliminate the issue of suitemate conflict by clearly outlining suite tasks, logging the scheduling of suite space and important dates, and allowing users to express the status of their emotions and needs in a way that minimizes embarrassment and miscommunication.

Key features include the ability to:

  • Assign tasks to other suitemates

  • Keep track of your own tasks for the suite

  • See the emotional and physical status of your suitemate

    • Whether they’re feeling sick/depressed/happy/irritable

    • Whether they’re asleep/away/studying/cooking

  • Mark important dates

Secondary features include:

  • Room status updates

  • Make requests of suitemates

  • Check the notifications of these features

  • Preference changes in Settings
