Suite Spot

Designed to encourage harmonious living, Suite Spot is an app that allows suitemates to communicate about tasks for them home including cleaning, grocery, and scheduling needs as well as suitemate statuses.

Overview

Suite Spot is a mobile app designed to reduce conflict among college suitemates by making shared responsibilities visible and communication clearer. As the UX Designer, I led research, prototyping, and front-end implementation.

Challenge

College students often struggle to coordinate suite life:

  • Tasks like cleaning and restocking are neglected.

  • Guests visit without notice, increasing tension.

  • Communication about needs happens too late, causing conflict.

Process

  • Research: Conducted contextual inquiries and affinity diagramming to map suite dynamics.

  • Design: Storyboarded pain points, prototyped in Balsamiq → Figma → high-fidelity.

  • Testing: Iterated prototypes with peers, refining task flows and communication features.

  • Implementation: Built front-end in React with a Flask backend.

Solution

Suite Spot provides:

  • Task assignment and tracking.

  • Status sharing (emotional/physical, e.g., “studying,” “happy,” “sick”).

  • Important date logging.

  • Secondary features like suitemate requests.

Impact

These features minimize the opportunity for misunderstandings, embarrassment, and conflict between suitemates.
